How can one person change the lives of so many? This is the story of Elleton ‘Mickey’ McCullough, a nurse who has not only cared for patients – but also shared the gift of her experience. In honor of International Nurses Day, we honor all nurses who have taken the time to pass along their wisdom to the generations of nurses who came after them. Between 2001 and 2015, the number of students enrolled in nursing programs more than doubled – creating an influx of novice nurses. The healthcare industry should prioritize ongoing training and education of nurses, especially those who are early in their career, so they can make the most of technology to provide compassionate care to their patients. Insights, automated administrative tasks and advanced clinical decision tools support the nursing staff of today and the future. Philips is committed to supporting nurses through their career journey with innovative technologies that can help nurses deliver high-quality care to more people. It seems as if #ArtificialIntelligence is everywhere these days, from the filters that keep spam emails out of your inbox to the menu of movies on your favorite streaming service. But how did we get here? Philips has been contributing for decades to the technologies that have enabled and advanced #AI as we know it now. That includes computing power, storage capacity, language models, and advanced speech technologies. As we celebrate Philips’ 133rd anniversary this month, we are looking back on these key innovations, and looking forward to the future of AI in #healthcare. https://lnkd.in/err-zSQG

Philips, SVP & Global Head Sustainability

What does it take to scale sustainability in healthcare? That’s exactly what was discussed during The Boston Globe’s Sustainability Week 2024 - appropriately kicking off on #EarthDay. The Philips hosted panel session that I moderated, examined the intersection of human and environmental health. Here are 3 key reflection points that I took away from the conversation: 💡 Especially in #healthcare, sustainability can no longer be an afterthought. Environmental impact needs to be understood and embedded in our health systems' operational and strategic frameworks. 💡 Great initiatives are happening, but we need to scale faster. Sharing insights, learnings and best practices are key to speed up development, execution and success of sustainability initiatives in healthcare. 💡 We can’t wait for a comprehensive playbook on sustainable healthcare! Healthcare organizations must take risks to learn what will work and what won’t. It is too pressing of an issue to wait for others to solve. I want to give a special thank you to our panelists, including Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services Secretary Kate Walsh, Vanderbilt University Medical Center Professor of Radiology Reed Omary, MD, MS, and Boston Medical Center (BMC) Chief Sustainability and Real Estate Officer Robert Biggio, for sharing their thoughts on #sustainability in healthcare. 📹 You can watch the full replay here. As always, please share your thoughts or questions: https://lnkd.in/e3XfnH5u #CareMeansTheWorld #innovation #sustainablehealthcare Boston Globe Media

In the United States, agriculture workers are the backbone of the farming sector and the country’s food supply chain. Despite the physical nature of their work, farmworkers struggle to access healthcare. That’s why Philips has teamed up with Emory University School of Nursing’s Farm Worker Family Health Program, based in Georgia (US). As part of this project, medical students are providing vital care to the farmworker community, and Emory nursing students also get hands-on experience using innovative Philips technologies. Find out more about this effort and others in the Philips Human Rights Report 2023: https://lnkd.in/ddxMTah3 Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University

Healthcare is a materials-intensive industry, collectively using 10% of all raw materials extracted every year, according to the 2023 Circularity Gap Report. We believe that sustainable use of materials can help reduce healthcare’s carbon footprint and eliminate waste. Philips is committed to circularity as a driver of sustainable #healthcare. On #EarthDay, we are putting the spotlight on our approach to reduce waste: 'Use less, use longer, use again'. It's all about helping our customers do more with less. That's why in 2023 we drove higher sales of products and services contributing to circularity, as well as further embedding circular practices at our sites.
